Should you happen to find yourself stopped in traffic in the area of 524 Broadway St. in Vincennes, take a moment to look at the porch on the nearby funeral home. Okay, you say, it’s a porch, so what? A fair and honest response. But what the casual observer probably doesn’t know is that this particular porch has significance not only to the funeral home it adorns, but also to another venerable Vincennes business establishment.
For that proch is the first thing a young would be architect ever designed for pa, and remains a monument to a career that has been the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.
That architect’s name is Larry Donovan.
How many of us, at age 9 or 10, decided what we wanted to be when we grew up and then actually did everything necessary to see it through to reality? Probably not very many of us. But that is precisely what Larry Donovan did.
