It’s been 45 years, but Garry Hall remembers clearly his military service in Vietnam, and how in the harrowing darkness after his tank was ambushed he worried about ever seeing his family again.
“That thought was so overpowering,” he said. “It stayed with me.”
Hall received a Purple Heart for having been wounded in that fiery ambush, a situation that would have been tough for any young man. There had been other moments of anxiety while protecting U.S. convoys or patrolling narrow pathways known as roads in Vietnam, but nothing as serious as what occurred on teh night of April 25, 1968.
